Kelly’s Superstar of the Week
Coming from somebody who has never been a giant fan of him, I never thought I’d be typing this sentence. Regardless of my own personal preferences, I’m going to be giving my Superstar of the Week spotlight to The Miz. This past week wasn’t necessarily the most successful for the Raw superstar. His first match against Rollins left him at a loss and his second against Balor didn’t end in his favor either. What was successful was the promo that he cut before that.
If you missed it, check it out here. Let’s start with his character. His A-List success, Hollywood high life character is one that he’s always been able to pull of flawlessly. There is no denying that. This is especially true when you put a microphone in his hand. This past week he went on a typical Miz-esque rant, but it wasn’t just saturated with his self centered characteristics.
It’s refreshing when wrestlers can pull off promos as well as The Miz does. It’s nice to feel invested and not have your attention wandering off somewhere else when somebody is talking. What really drives it, though, is when you can feel the emotion coming through. About halfway through his promo he talks about how he’s sick of being taken for granted. Now, don’t get me wrong. Plenty of people can deliver frustrated promos, but there’s certain times when it feels genuine and others it’s just for the sake of the character. The frustration from The Miz here seemed pretty damn genuine. In my opinion, promos like this on the road to Wrestlemania aren’t only appreciated but they’re essential. It keeps an audience intrigued and on the edge of their seat waiting for what’s going to happen next.
Rumors are floating around that The Miz will have a fatal five way to look forward to. We’ll see what happens, but we’ll keep you posted here at PandemoniuMania!
